Some say “three cheers for Oklahoma.” It is the first government in this country to take up the question of banning Sharia, or Islamic Law. Whether the move will succeed or not is unknown, but it is clear that in some respects, Sharia law is in direct conflict with the Constitution. On the other hand, however, there have been court decisions here in which judges have treated Islamic law as it would any other religion and, in so doing, they have given legal recognition to the practices involved. The Toll: 10/17/10 – Taliban Moves to Seek Peace

According to the National Post, the Taliban have entered into negotiations to end the war in Afghanistan. The chairman of President Hamid Karzai’s High Council for Peace admitted that informal talks are already under way and the U.S. military said it was cooperating by allowing Taliban leaders to travel to Kabul for the talks. The Toll 10/10/10: New Appointment Thwarts War-Hawks

The military-industrial complex has taken a hit. Bob Woodward’s new book, “Obama’s War,” quotes Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates as saying Tom Donilon would be a “disaster” if promoted to National Security Advisor. Last week, President Obama appointed a new aide to replace outgoing National Security Advisor General James L. Jones. The new person to head up the National Security Council?….Tom Donilon.
